@Zaid I decided to attempt a clutch replacement, but my years out of practice, and bad engineering on the bike had me stuck removing one part, until I sold the bike as is, so I'm afraid no certain solution is known.
@Paulster2 I sold the bike before fixing it, and my memory is a but vague memory of great brute force lingers. I think I mauled a tube spanner into fitting into that recess, with four 'gripping sides' and undid the holding nut that way.
Paulster2, the only thing I see @Pip could have expanded on more is where the crankshaft position sensor is. Still, this answer is quite helpful as is, anyway.
