I am currently investigating oil leak\burn on my civic vti 1999. I do not think the oil is leaking on low rpm since leaving it overnight doesn't show any oil spills and if I drive below 4000 rpm the oil level doesn't go down. However when I hit vtec(on high rpm) i always smell a burning oil smell and I'm guessing this is causing my constant oil loss.

Should i be smelling any oil when hitting vtec? If I have a leak or burning situation, what is it about high rpm that would cause the leak or burning to exacerbate?

Suppose your engine is leaking or burning oil but noticeably or only at higher rpm, why would higher rpms exacerbate leaks or burns?
