Jun 28, 2016 at 11:21 comment added Jane S Sorry for the delay in accepting. After trying pretty much everything else, I've come to the realisation that I will indeed have to replace the motor. So this the appropriate answer! :)

May 11, 2016 at 6:08 comment added DucatiKiller @JaneS DEFCON 1 is bad. This video shows howto take a inner doorskin off on your car. Have a watch and see if you can a get a 'feel' for it. :-)
May 11, 2016 at 3:53 comment added Jane S @Edward I know how to do some general maintenance like changing the oil, and minor repairs like changing a flat tyre or a busted light bulb (I think these are skills that all women should have). So sure, I'll give it a go! :)
May 11, 2016 at 1:25 comment added Edward @JaneS If you've got moderate mechanical skills, patience and some simple hand tools (hex wrenches, screwdrivers, needle-nose pliers) you can probably do this. I'm betting most of us here learned as we went, acquiring skills as necessity dictated. If you're even 30% inclined to try it, I say go for it! Even if you find you're unsuccessful, you're no worse off if you do wind up paying someone to fix it.
May 11, 2016 at 0:19 comment added Jane S @Edward Hmm, not sure I have the skills to disassemble the door. If I can't get it to unstick, I might have to pay someone to fix it for me :(
May 11, 2016 at 0:14 comment added Jane S @DucatiKiller I'm a pacifist, but I'm getting close to DEFCON1 with this window!!! :) One of my kids is teasing the other because her window works...!

May 10, 2016 at 17:42 comment added Edward Sometimes disassembling the door and replacing the grease inside the gearmotor and adding lithium grease to the window regulator can help squeeze a little more life out of them if you'd rather spend time than money on this problem.
May 7, 2016 at 21:41 comment added Jane S This is no doubt the longer term solution, but I'm hoping I can get a bit more life out of them once I get them unstuck then before going for the nuclear option :)
