Removing stubborn o2 sensor - danger of stripping thread?

If they told you the truth and unsuccessfully tried an acetylene burner: Well, yes: What does not get loose with such measures will (most likely) damage the thread (if that not already happened) if ...

Is my mixture too rich?

The fotos differ each in color. Try to capture the plug in natural light, without flash. Unless the colors in the foto are totally wrong, there can't be much wrong with the engine. Seems to be a nice ...

How much leaner can you responsibly run an old engine?

I wouldn't go too far with it, for risk of pinking, which could damage your pistons - plus, as I'm sure you well know, the Triumph slant 4 isn't exactly known for it's cooling abilities! You'll ...

Very high short term fuel trim

The post o2 generally does not effect performance. It's rather more a gauge of how well your catalytic converter is functioning. In a perfect world Stoichiometry is what the secondary is trying to ...

Procedure for measuring Lambda values at PUC Centres

I can only give an answer for the part of the world where I live, which is Finland. As default, in all cars with three-way catalyst, the vehicle is measured at idle and at >2000 RPM. Lambda value ...

Faulty O2 sensor identification

It's the pre-cat sensors that are used to determine the mixture departing the engine, the post-cat ones are there to monitor cat function. Since the fuel trims adapt to maintain the value at the pre-...

Lambda wiring diagram wrong from Bosch

I think you are saying your replacement sensor has white, white, grey and black wires, which is the standard universal coding. White and white are heater wires, it doesn't matter whether hot or ground ...

Driving without the second lambda sensor

Drilling a hole and welding a new bung into place for the O2 sensor seems like your best course of action. Yes it can be done and that's what I'd do to fix the situation.

How come that with a worn MAF and lambda fuel economy suffers but there is no performance gained?

The engine ECU uses the readings from these sensors to get the fuel to burn as weak as possible while still being efficient and keeping the burn temperatures safe for the engine. If the MAF and O2 ...

What causes narrowband O2 sensor behaviour?

The O2 sensor changes its voltage for two reasons. One it's hot (and you have to wait until it gets hot - hence modern ones tend to be heated) and two, the gasses flowing past it. If you disconnect ...

Removing stubborn o2 sensor - danger of stripping thread?

I own a 4 cylinder 2003 Camry. I needed to change the oxygen sensor on it. I first removed the heat shield. The two halves are held on by screws. The top half removes easily. The bottom half as ...

Removing stubborn o2 sensor - danger of stripping thread?

I don't want to hijack the answer from Myself, but I do want to submit a photo. I recently had to work on a stuck Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen (HEGO) sensor. I had been attempting to use a friends Snap ...

What formula is used when deriving AFR/lambda value from emissions?

Lambda is calculated using the Brettshneider equation. Brettshneider. It takes into account the mass balance of the constituents of the gasses in the exhaust from a combustion process. Oxygen ...

Is there a chemical limitation to the mixture an engine can maintain?

You can't go any leaner than injecting no fuel whatsoever. This may sound dumb but actually an engine will continue to spin for a few firing cycles without fuel. Some engines are able to actually ...
