I discovered a hole in my intake hose (2001 Honda Prelude SH, ~190k miles), downstream from the filter:

I've got a new hose coming and just patched it up with some duct tape in the mean time. I have no idea how long it's been there (could be anywhere from 1 day to 15 years old) or how it happened.

My question is:

Given that this was allowing a small amount of unfiltered air intake for an unspecified (and possibly long) time, is there any follow-up stuff I should inspect for issues? E.g. should I pull apart the intake manifold and look for any excessive dirt / wear, clogging in hoses anywhere, etc.?

Also is there anything else that could have been damaged (worst case) that I should either inspect or just replace?

I'm slightly concerned about its location; a lot of nasty stuff has been in that spot over the years... water, engine cleaner, aluminum/steel shavings, airborne rust powder, paint flakes, you name it. I *am* due for a timing belt change very soon and so I'll have the opportunity to take a peak inside the engine as well, if there's anything worth looking at in there.

As a subquestion: How could that have even happened? Or is it just expected weakness in the plastic after 15 years. That joint, I assume, is the interface between the fixed air filter housing and the vibrating engine, so it does seem reasonable that stress over time would weaken and crack the plastic.
