I currently have a 2005 Jeep Cherokee 2.8D in the workshop. It seems as though there is a communication error between the key and its transponder. The ignition turns on and the engine turns over, although there is no fuel flow, meaning that the pump is not operating. Is this a safety mechanism on these cars?

I have checked all fuses and relays and they are all correctly placed and operational.

A new ECU has been programmed and fitted by another mechanic, although the old one still seems to be working fine. I have tried both ECU's with no luck. A new key has also been programmed and made up.

Is there anything else I can try?

  • Maybe a bad fuel pump? If it has the PATS antitheft system this could be the issue. The anti-theft module is separate from other modules. – Moab Jul 4 '20 at 15:10
