My car has some noise from beneath when I release the brakes when the car is in Drive Mode and reaches a complete stop. There is absolutely no noise while releasing brakes in Neutral mode. What can be the reason. The car is Honda Civic 2007 and has 94,000 miles on it.

  1. Approach a stop sign, Car is in Drive Mode. Press Brakes, come to complete stop and release. There is that clunk sound.
  2. Approach a stop sign, Put car in Neutral Mode. Press Brakes, come to complete stop and release. There is no sound.
  3. Approach a stop sign, Car is in Drive Mode, Press Brakes, Put Car in Neutral and come to complete stop and release. There is no sound.

The sound which is like a clunk comes only on releasing brakes when car is in complete stop and on drive mode. What can be possible reason for this?

  • My first suspicion here are the CV joints on your drive shafts. Check them for play with the car on a lift. – jwh20 Dec 16 '19 at 14:04
