I have a 2010 Mercedes C-300 with six speed standard transmission. I'm wondering if it is wise to downshift to get engine compression to help slow down the vehicle when stopping to lessen brake wear? Is this a good trade-off? Is using engine compression to slow down going to have an adverse effect on other parts of the car such as the clutch or pressure plate? In a modern car, is using engine compression to slow down still a good idea?
