I shorted a powered 12V rail from my backup lights to the ground on my cigarette lighter port. All electrical components of car, including accessory panel and backup lights function normally, but the gauge cluster is entirely dead. Upon cranking, the engine stalls within about a second; gauges do not "jump" in the interim.

What's the diagnosis? Fried a computer somewhere?
