Recently, my Escape has been having a hard time shifting into gear it doesn't shift hard or jerk but it runs a slightly elevated RPM prior to shifting. At some points it does not shift into gear unless I release the acceleration and the reapply pressure to it. I have checked the transmission fluid and the level is fine.

What are some other possible reasons this could be happening?

(side note: During extended drives the issue does stop)

  • How many miles on the vehicle? There are a number of things that could cause this. I would start with a transmission diagnostic, which often is free. They can evaluate the shift points and pressures. It's possible dirty fluid is causing a sticking servo, a speed sensor is bad, or there are valve body issues. Is the check engine light on? – SteveRacer May 4 '19 at 3:06
