My starter will only work when I jump the wires on my "new" fender mounted solenoid. Not using the key, just have it turned on and jump the solenoid. At the starter there is a red wire (thin) looks like it should be on it. A long black (thin) wire, is already on the starter as well as a thick red one to the battery. Should the thin red one be attached and where? It will only reach the starter. But I was told there is only one thin wire to the ignition (solenoid). And one to the battery.

  • Is there a ballast resistor for the ignition? Usually the second thin wire provides a full 12 volts to the ignition while the starter solenoid is operating. – John Canon Jan 29 '19 at 4:53
