I have a 2008 Honda Civic Si and whenever I engage the Ac and have the car in neutral, I can hear a rattling noise, which seems to be coming from the gearbox. However, If I should depress the clutch while in neutral or any other gear, the noise would stop. I'm not sure if the problem is with the AC compressor or the gearbox itself. I'm unable to pinpoint where the noise is being generated from.

I've been researching this issue for quite some time now but unfortunately, I'm unable to get a decisive reason or diagnostic as to what is causing the noise.

Something to note, my AC works fine and also, the noise is not noticeable when the AC is off/disengaged. Any help in solving/diagnosing this issue would surely be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Welcome to Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair! I'd suggest while the A/C might be working fine, the issue lies within the compressor. This is just a gut check, but would bet it is on its way out. – Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Jan 12 at 14:08
