This question already has an answer here:

This morning I noticed the following crack in the sidewall of my front tire. Wasn't sure if it was anything serious so I took it to the nearest tire shop and asked a couple of the guys working there if it needed replacement.

They said it's just superficial and there's nothing to worry about. Yet I'm not feeling too convinced, especially since what I've read online says that I should have it replaced.

Can anyone please confirm that this tire damage holds no risk so that I can stop worrying about it? Thanks in advance to you all.

  • I up voted your question, it's a very common misconception. – Numair Aidroos Jun 27 '17 at 13:50

This is a cut to the sidewall of the tire where it meets the rim. Very dangerous to drive this way. Please change the tires immediately.

Let me know the previous tire profile, I'll recommend a good all round tire for your needs.

FYI: this may rip open any time.

  • Thanks for the info, I'll go get it changed ASAP. I'd throw in a pic showing the depth but it's already nightfall here. I'll keep ye posted and choose the answer once the issue is resolved. Thanks for the feedback :) – Nightspark Jun 27 '17 at 15:39
