Which means in my case doesn't make any difference if I do it now or 1 day before the expiration date, is this correct?

Principally, you won't be "using the current one", its just the new one will start earlier, i.e. the new one will be for 13 months. Read the gov website, its actually very useful and easy to find information.

Mar 21, 2017 at 9:55 | comment | added | user8469759 | My MOT expires the 16th of April, so If do the test tomorrow say (22nd of March), I would still keep using the current one until it expires and then I would use the new one since I'll have done the MOT test one month minus 1 day in advance, is this understanding correct?
