Mar 21, 2016 at 2:04 | comment | added | user15009 | I fixed a horribly rattling heatshield on my1996 Subaru by attaching a sturdy zip tie to a piece of coathanger wire, wrapping it around the Catalytic converter and pulling it up. Months later it is still silent. I knew where the rattle was by having had a similar problem on another car (where I simply ripped the entire heatshield loose, since it was not really attached anyway) and on my current car by hitting the exhaust system with a stick until something rattled. A huge part of owning a car is knowing what is wrong and how much it should cost to fix. I safely ignored this issue for months. | |
