comment How Does a Person End Up With Their Timing “180 Out”?
Thanks! This is helpful +1, but I'm still having trouble picturing this in my mind... So for TDC on the exhaust stroke, is the #1 piston physically located in the same distance from the plug as it would be in TDC of the compression stroke? In other words, for TDC on the exhaust stroke, is the piston still X inches from the plug on both strokes, or is it located at the bottom of the motor at TDC on exhaust? I hope my question is clear, I'm not sure I'm using the right terms. :)

revised Will Putting An Extra Quart of Oil In My Car Ruin It?
made the title more appropriate for search engines as "I've done something stupid" doesn't really help others find the question.

Turns out there was a lubrication problem under the hood where the clutch push rod connects to the transmission. It was creating the extra resistance, which was leading to the retaining piece popping off. Now that there is less resistance, it should hopefully stay together :)

I think you might be right about the rod. I can move it around quite a bit, and I was thinking that is probably adding a lot of stress on the little plastic clip, which wasn't really designed to withstand much... I'm just glad Ford didn't use this same technology with the brakes! I couldn't imagine where I'd be right now if it were the brakes that went to the floor instead!

@Rory - lol, you must be rich! How many transmissions did you go through during all this good fun?

comment Diesel vs Petrol motorcars. Pro's and cons?
I'm not interested in the inner workings of petrol vs. diesel engines, but more in what would be of relevance to an everyday buyer when choosing between diesel vs. petrol I'm not sure this is about motor vehicle repair. This seems more like a shopping question, which would be off-topic here.

comment Least wear-and-tear, most fuel efficient method of coasting in a manual transmission car?
@Bob - Actually, it's important to determine the boundaries now, not once the rifraff has taken over your Q&A site. It's much easier to keep the bad stuff out now than it is to try to get rid of it later. Not meeting the number of questions is a short term goal. Focus on the long term and the site will be fine. With that said, I do agree with you that this question should be reopened, and I'll vote too. It's like that restaurant you went to that had a roach crawl across your plate. It's been ruined for you, and nothing that they can do will ever fix it. Online communities are the same.

This is a really great thought-provoking question and answer. It kind of helps explain why braking in an electric car puts more energy back into the system.

comment Can I drive my 4wd 4runner in front wheel only?
@Tim - It could work, but in my experience "accidental features" rarely happen. In general, if a machine isn't designed to be used in a certain manner, using it in that manner will prematurely wear it out.
