comment Alternator vs Battery
@Marin No, it's not the best way to charge the battery with the alternator at all. You should put it on a battery charger at the lowest rate practical. The Alternator is going to try and fast charge the battery which may not work well depending on the condition of the battery.

comment Why is car A/C typically less reliable than fridges/freezers?
@jnovacho I added a link to Ton in my answer, and Marc Stober has a great link as well. As for the highway speeds, the air going across the condenser removes heat and converts the gaseous refrigerant back to a liquid (it condenses the gas) it's effectiveness depends on the size of the condenser and the airflow across it. They system has to be designed to work at idle with less airflow all the way up to highway speeds.

@MarcStober to some extent yes, with a constant and predictable power input the compressor can be designed to turn at the exact RPM required for maximum efficiency

Started on that when I saw the question and then 18 ADD leaps later I came back to finish it lol. Seen yours after I posted.

comment Is it normal for stop distance to be long on brand new brake pads?
After some research it seems it depends on the type of pads and application. See Centric Parts, Tire Rack‌, and Zechhausen Racing

Disagree, while your correct that they have to bed-in, if done properly it doesn't take a hundred miles, and should be done before the car is given back to the customer. Anything less and you put the customer at risk for an accident and open yourself up to liability.

comment Why is there no explosion risk while there is a gasoil pre-pump immersed in the fuel tank?
While I did up-vote your question I disagree with your premise that more votes means more views.

comment 1986 Ford Escort revs but doesn't accelerate
I reopened you question, but we still need more information. Does it change gears at all? If it changes gears in what gear does the RPM go up? Does it make a difference if it's in D, 2, or 1?

Do you have a way to check the fuel pressure?

comment Install switch to disable airbag in 2003 Chrysler Town & Country
@JoeZ We had someone come to our dealership with said letter and our service manager wouldn't even consider it. This was around 2000, the manufacture (GM) at the time did not have an option to do it, and even though it's relatively simple to disable the dealership would not consider it.

comment Does the brake pedal always feel soft after the pads are changed?
@UtS I checked with a friend who is a tech at a bike shop. He said they do not turn rotors only replace them.

@UtS The rotor was not turned (resurfaced) and should be, or replaced. Again I defer to the motorcycle experts on whether resurfacing is an option of if they just replace them. Based on the bluing (hard to be sure from the picture) it may need to be replaced anyway. The other problem you run into is if you replace or turn the rotor you will need to replace the pads again because the pads you have on there now are warn into the current uneven rotors, yet another reason to go back to the same shop.

@UtS I would at least give them a shot a fixing it. We all make mistakes, and we prefer to make them right if we can.

@UtS can you post a picture of the rotor? You really have to look at it or feel it to tell. You could also take the brake pads off and inspect the surface on those as well. But I wouldn't do any of that I would take it back to the shop and demand that they fix it.

In the State they are easy to find at most auto parts stores. Not sure where to send you there, other than ordering online.
