I've been programming since my early teens and like so many of us, I started Basic on the usual home computers like Atari 800XL, ZX Spectrum etc. "Turned pro" about 20 years ago.

I've been mostly doing C++ during this time, writing anything from device drivers for various operating systems to trading systems for banks.

comment Follow Maintenance Manual or Service technician recommendations?
Why did he recommend the PCV replacement (is the one on the car blocked/stuck?) and why did he suggest an "injection service" and what would be part of the injection service?

When it starts running lean and all that, does the way it runs improve when you open the fuel filler cap?

comment AC sytem repair after bad compressor
The legality of the repair most likely depends on your location, you might want to add that. Also, were the lines capped when the compressor was removed or were they left open to the elements?

comment My ER6 was lowered to accomodate a shorter driver than me. How can I adjust the height?
Do you know how it was lowered? Shorter shock, different knuckle? That has a a massive impact on how hard it is for you to undo the change. That said, I would suggest that you have to be very confident that you can do decent work on motorcycle suspension before starting to work on this as a mistake can make you a feature in the scenery much quicker than you'd like.

comment Can I save money using E85 in my flexible fuel vehicle?
I don't think that it's clumsy and error prone - I think Bob's suggestion is the only way to find out if you can save money using E85 or not. There are too many variables that come into play which influence your particular fuel consumption that a "generic" study cannot take into account.

comment How Does a Person End Up With Their Timing “180 Out”?
Yep, it doesn't matter if you're on exhaust stroke TDC or compression stroke TDC for the piston's position relative to the spark plug. In both cases it's at the top of its travel.

comment How do you detect and deal with a freon leak?
@Aerovistae, if you have the refrigerant put in at an automotive a/c place, tell them that you appear to have a leak so they can add some UV dye to the refrigerant. You then get to drive around for a few weeks, using the a/c and take it back. The leak(s) will show up under a UV light.

In that case you might still have a battery that's OK if it gets charged properly and holds a charge.

comment How do I know if my car battery is dead?
That alone isn't really an indicator of its health - some batteries last a lot longer than that depending on the climate and if it's been deep cycled before. Also, lots of short trips tend to reduce the lifespan of a battery whereas lots of long trips tend to increase it.

Check if the electrodes around the tips and down from the tips look sooty (mixture too rich) or if they're whiteish/tan. Here's a reasonable set of pictures to give you an idea what you're looking for: theultralightplace.com/sparkplugs.htm
