I've been programming since my early teens and like so many of us, I started Basic on the usual home computers like Atari 800XL, ZX Spectrum etc. "Turned pro" about 20 years ago.

I've been mostly doing C++ during this time, writing anything from device drivers for various operating systems to trading systems for banks.

Forgot to suggest - try starting the bike with the fuel filler cap off. See if it starts better than way - if it does, you have a blocked tank vent.

That's what I suspected :). At 15C you should almost be able to start the bike without the choke if it still has carbs. A fully charged battery should have around 13.2V when doing nothing, so 12V is a little low. Did you by any chance measure the voltage when cranking the engine? That's usually a good indicator as to how healthy the battery is.

What sort of outside temperatures are we talking in "winter" where you are? Regarding the battery, I would charge the battery up, then crank the engine and measure the battery voltage. That will give you an idea if the battery is still good or not.

comment Is it safe to take the paint back to the undercoat? (will it rust?)
Actually most primers are hygroscopic so I wouldn't recommend stripping back to primer in any sort of damp climate.

Did you check if the spark plugs are sooted up or wet when the bike has trouble starting? Also, how old is the battery?

comment Damaged frame on my motorbike
The only suggestion I can add to this is to check into the cost of either a good used frame with paperwork or a replacement frame. My guess is that the latter is probably prohibitively expensive, but it might work out cheaper to find an unbent used frame and rebuild the bike around that.

I can't remember why they did it, but I do remember that they've been doing that at least since the late 80s/early 90s.

comment How to remove Duct Tape residue?
You're going to be OK - what they're basically saying applies only if the car has been freshly painted. If it hasn't been painted in the last 2-3 weeks, you can safely assume that the paint has cured. However, as always I'd check in an inconspicuous place to ensure that the adhesive remover isn't interacting with the paint.

comment How do I weigh mileage against time when it comes to scheduled maintenance?
Not to mention that "test driving" an overdue timing belt on an interference engine (which I believe most Honda engines are) can very quickly lead to test driving an new/rebuilt engine at much greater cost than a timing belt change.
