comment Can radiator cool down a car too much?
I agree that it sounds like a thermostat. However, I have run into a situation where I had too much cooling... It was 40 degrees below, I was driving on the highway, and the 1.9L engine just couldn't keep up with providing enough heat to the cabin. So I turned on the propane furnace. :-) It was a VW camper van, water cooled.

comment Why does the reverse gear in manual transmission cars sound different
Note that some cars do have a synchro and helical gears on reverse. See the "Reverse" section of the Wikipedia Synchromesh article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manual_transmission#Reverse

comment Trailer wiring corrosion
That was my first thought too, but the OP said that the connector looked fine and it was the back-end that was corroding. Dielectric grease might help if you can get it back in there, but it really sounds like a connector with a better, water-tight design, may be better.

comment how to protect metal from scrape through the paint?
Rusteoleum also has a "reacts with rust to make it inert" primer forumla that I've had good luck with.

comment Difference between FWD/RWD/4WD/Part-Time 4WD/AWD?
@Rory, @dilbert kind of oversimplified it. SH-AWD will "overdrive" the rear-end by 2% (one model) or 0-6% faster than the front wheels. It can also transfer up to 100% of the rear-end power to the outside wheel. Wikipedia has a detailed article about it.
