Just another nobody out in the world, banging out some code from time to time...

comment Why is the brake pedal higher than the accelerator pedal
80's Fords seem to be on the extreme side... Both the old Ford pickup and Mustang from that era that I drove it felt like you were shoving your leg down a deep tunnel to find the accelerator, then you have to lift your leg almost until your knee is in your chin to get on top of the brake pedal. :-)

comment Why does my 2005 Volvo S60 make a clicking sound when accelerating from a stop?
Recommend you take care of the known issues before you waste too much time diagnosing this noise. The other issues could very well be causing the sound.

comment Automatic trasmission gear lock when accelerating
A pretty common problem for those that are used to driving a manual and get in an automatic. Can be very annoying/frustrating! I'll beg/borrow rides around when my car's in the shop just to avoid getting stuck with a rental that has an auto trans!

Might even be easier to either go aftermarket or even roll your own.

comment Engine Coolant Temperature sensor goes bad whenever the outside temperature is hot
Probably a bad ground somewhere in the system. Check the grounding path for the sensor, gauge, and ECU (could be any of them, depending on exactly how the sensor & gauge are designed in that particular car).

comment BMW E30 M20 oil warning light goes on on hot days but the motor sounds and performs fine
I found out the hard way that an oil pump can also fail in a manner where it just supplies greatly reduced oil pressure. In my case it was just barely supplying enough to keep the light off in normal driving. On really hot days sometimes the light would flicker while idling after starting. I could hear no untoward sounds at all, but when I went in for the 180k timing belt change I had them borescope the engine. The cylinder bores were trashed. Dropped the oil pan and the main bearings were shot too. Get the oil pressure checked ASAP!

comment Synthetic Oil and oil change frequency
That's very true, but I still can't get totally comfortable with that as a recommendation. While the oil may not degrade, it's still holding the accumulated contaminants. I'd be very hesitant to recommend exceeding the factory intervals if the vehicle is still under warranty. If you're outside warranty anyway and don't mind taking the chance, well, that's another matter entirely. In my own vehicles I change every 3000 miles with full synthetic, but I don't worry about the elapsed time at all (which can vary from a month to a couple years).
