Sr Applications Developer @ jp2code.net
Years ago, I left home and joined the United States Marine Corps where I was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of Basic Metal Worker (MOS 1316). I loved building things as a welder, but could not see myself doing this until I reached age 65.
After my Honorable Discharge in the early 1990s, I used my G.I. Bill to go to school and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics four years later.
Using a love of computers since I played on a Commodore 64 at 10 years old and two (2) C++ electives that I had taken in school, I began working in the computer programming field.
The recession following ENRON in 2001 left me working at a remedial job for a little over two years while I brushed up on my skills at a local community college in SQL and first learned what the new .NET Framework was all about.
I have had the pleasure of working as a Software Developer since 2003.
For a short while, I pulled in a little extra income by running a moonlighting business under the name Joe's Welding. Dangerous working conditions and non-paying customers prompted me to sell my mobile welding equipment about the time my son was born.
Today, I am exclusively a Software Developer. My language of choice is C#, and I enjoy working with databases.
Where I am not known by my code, I am known by my motorcycle: I am one of the few riders who loves the Harley-Davidson XR1200. Pictures of my modified XR are posted on websites around the world, and I go by the screen name JoeP on the XR1200 Owner's Group.

What is the Magic ON temperature for Electric Fans? Not sure how old your car is, Brian, but I know the chemical characteristics of the goo those sensors use can change characteristics as the parts get older. You might be able to change out the sensor and have your fan turn on when it is expected. Also, if your car is like my truck, it could have a separate sensor for the gauge in the dash. In that case, the gauge sensor could be off. |

What is the Magic ON temperature for Electric Fans? A 1994 Nissan D21 w/ VG30e. Did not come with electric fan, but I am installing one from a 1993 Nissan Altima. So far, I have it installed CLICK and this thermoswitch relay ready to go on. Just ran out of time today. |

What is the Magic ON temperature for Electric Fans? Are you just guessing at 185°? That's how I came up with that value. I'm looking for a definite answer. When a car manufacturer builds a vehicle with an electric fan, that fan is set to turn on at a specific temperature. Given a 180° thermostat (optional 170°F thermostat), I'd like to know what temperature an electric fan should be set to turn on. |

Does “DOT and SAE approved” apply across the United States? +1. To add, you could find SAE and DOT stamps for side marker lights, but that doesn't mean you could use them for brake lights or turn signals. |

Gasoline is dripping out of a rubber tube outputting on the bottom of my motorcycle - is this normal, or is it a problem? Why'd you take an upside down picture? |

shifting stops when critically low on gas I doubt it. But, I spend a lot of time on the Nissan Hardbody forum, and Nissan has coded in some strange behaviors whenever it gets bad readings from sensors. It could be that you have water in the bottom of the tank. |

Steering Wheel Shake New Car Performance Tires I'm voting for a bad rim. The balancer shows everything is A-OK, but the inside is still a different weight than the outside. |

Why do tires get bigger over the years? I say it's all a sham! Tire places know you have to pay more for their 20-inch tires than the standard 14 and 15 inch tires, so they buddy up with the auto makers to ensure they stick oddball sized wheels on new vehicles. Everyone makes money but you. |

shifting stops when critically low on gas How low is this? I have seen auto manufacturers wire up some odd stuff in the electronics to ensure the owner's do something, but this is certainly odd - like an unknown bug! |

How to repair alternator slip rings to stop squeaking? I'm guessing you're like me and didn't keep the receipt, otherwise I'd say to return it as a defective alternator! |

Nissan Hardbody Heavy Duty Rear Leaf Springs I can't afford new (OEM or aftermarket), so my only option is to sort this out with parts off of existing vehicles. The aftermarket does not even list the HD version of the D21. These Longbed 3/4-ton and 1-ton models were not common. |
