comment What are the implications of driving through flood water when I have a high air intake?
@Jerreck, because the spark plug holes are vertical. My engine is flat so it's harder for it to retain water in the spark plugs. A V engine is somewhere in between. Assume that the probability distribution is something like the cosine of the angle from vertical.

comment How can I turn my rear window into a one-way mirror?
The rear window on almost all vehicles is slanted. There is almost no chance that light will be reflected specularly back into the eyes of the driver behind you. Even if it did, it would also annoy people who were driving with their low beams on. As such, I'd expect this to be illegal in almost all areas.

comment Is it safe to overload the roof rails?
Follow-up: the kayak that I saw still attached to roof rails (in the middle of the road) was also mounted on edge as shown above. Large sail area + lots of leverage + plenty of mass ==> failure.

Almost crashed into a configuration like this while driving home. Needless to say, it was no longer connected to the car.
