comment Difference Between Oil Filters
@Paul, personal assertion is not evidence. An objective (e.g., double blind) comparison of a set of oil filters would certainly allow us to draw conclusions about which of those specific filters are actually "OEM equivalent." We still wouldn't be able to generalize to the point where "OEM equivalent" == UNSAT. The problem is still the word "probably" above and the burden of proof isn't on me.

Not really: what are your requirements? Are you looking for a filter that is equivalent to your original part when used as documented in the "regular usage" portion of your owners manual? Or are you planning to race this car? Specificity is your friend here: if you limit the question, you're more likely to get a useful answer.

comment Difference Between Oil Filters
"An after market filter that states it is "OEM equivalent" is probably just claiming to meet similar minimum requirements, but this is not going to have anything to do with filter media efficiency." - citation needed. What evidence supports the word "probably" in this sentence?

This isn't an answerable question as written. Could you be more specific about what you're trying to find out? As is, this is very similar to asking "Are there any differences between cars?"

comment How do maintenance costs compare between gas and diesel engines?
Can you be more specific about which particular truck you're considering? Also, you should consider the torque vs. power trade-offs.

comment What causes an engine to burn oil?
This question is a bit too vague to provide concrete answers. For example, my car has a turbo and an oil feed that goes through it. There's a potential that oil will be burned somewhere in that hellish environment. That's less of a problem than it is something to expect. A two-stroke engine has oil in the fuel: oil is expected to burn. You have to add oil for the engine to work. If you provide a specific example, you'll get more specific answers.

comment What are the temperature ranges for different oil grades?
You really need to be more specific about your application. For example, my turbo car makes a lot of heat but the ambient temperature didn't get very high this year. Likewise, it doesn't get terribly cold. Please provide some more info about your specific vehicle.
