What are the tradeoffs for positive vs. negative ground? Agreed lightning isn't a perfect example, talking about way higher voltages then we are dealing with, but I thought it would be close enough and a universally understood example. The light bulb and two batteries example doesn't seem good to me as I can see the positive side of a battery working connected somewhere else but not necessarily the negative. Out flow of electricity from the positive seems a lot more plausible then in flow of a limited capacity device. |

How To Tell if a Pulley Not Attached to the Engine Is Bad What were the symptoms? In what way do you think it is bad? Not rotating, out of balance, slipping? |

What are the tradeoffs for positive vs. negative ground? I just thought of what might be a great example of what I'm talking about. A Lightning strike! When you get a strong enough positive charge in the sky it jumps to an available ground, in this case the earth. This isn't a cyclical circuit where it leaves the cloud to somewhere else and then goes back to the cloud. It leaves the cloud and goes into the earth, from a positive to a negative. |

What are the tradeoffs for positive vs. negative ground? Could be wrong, not an electrician, but connecting positive of the battery to any negative ground sure seems like a circuit to me. With a vehicle it has to wrap back to the battery because the whole vehicle is isolated from another ground by the tires. We are talking about the flow of electrons, they want to move from the positive to the negative to create balance, they don't care if that the negative is on the other side of the battery, the ground beneath your feet or anywhere else. |

Difference between “Hypoid” and “Limslip” oils Yes, I think you are too, especially because the diff is going to be made out of harder metal than the synchros, but I felt it worth stating as there are instances where using a "newer better product" can cause harm to older systems. This happened with the introduction of ethanol into gasoline also, caused issues with fuel systems that weren't built to handle it. |

What's a good used diesel/manual transmission car for commuting? This question is right on the definition of "Too Localized", cost of vehicles fluctuate wildly between different regions/countries, are constantly changing over time and even trying to suggest a model isn't practical as the difference between two used cars of the same model are extreme based on what the previous owners did to them as covered in Top Gear's Season 16, Episode 4 when they each bought a BMW 325i and they all had different issues with them. |

Which will have longer lifespan: stock or urethane bushings? @Bob, agreed, it sounded pretty crazy to me when I read it in the steps on how to replace the bushings on my car. Even though there were photos showing the steps too. Then when a group of guys from the car club were doing someone's set of bushings, this was done. Really though, a little gasoline fire on a steel LCA, long enough to melt some rubber, probably not hurting the metal. Just make sure to have a fire extinguisher handy!!! |

How to determine the compressed height of a spring? @Brian, I was thinking about your scale suggestion and the issue I'm seeing there is it'd be measuring the unsprung weight also (LCAs, axles, wheels, rotors, tires, etc). I'm not sure if there is a truly accurate way to get your cars precise sprung weight without some work involved. |
