Hello, world!

I enjoy using my experience to help others. That is why I am active at a number of other sites in the StackExchange network on topics that interest me.

valuable flair!

I'm something of a Swiss army knife both professionally and in private, able to juggle a wild variety of things at once. I've worked in every kind of business that uses software. I'm also very good with tools, both IT and mechanic. Whether you need software design or assembling some IKEA furniture, I'm your man for the job. I'm generally soft-spoken but driven by clear principles.

I'm a twin, I've lived in five countries, I speak four languages fluently and two more embarrassingly. Also, being a father routinely develops my patience which is useful for moderating on StackExchange too.

comment How can I elegantly secure a USB charging cable to the dashboard?
The easiest way was actually down as you indicate but continue all the way to the floor, then along the door threshold and finally across in front of the driver's seat. Much simpler than my original idea, and completely invisible. Most of the cable is tucked between plastic and carpeting. Thanks!!

comment Charger doesn't stay put in cigarette lighter outlet
Solved: I took the plug apart and found that it was, indeed, a cheap piece of .... I removed the hard metal center nub and replaced it with a short soft spring. Now it works well enough. Seeing how simple electronics it contains made me think about avoiding the plug&socket by embedding it directly in the console, but that's a project for another day.

comment Can I decrease the sensitivity of my seat belt “person detector”?
@WilliamCline and SeanReifschneider: In the event of an airbag-triggering crash, I think one more airbag is the least of your worries. Either the crash is not your fault and the other guy's insurance will cover it, or it is your fault and that airbag is going to be your concern #289...

Put it on the floor in front of the seat?

Yes I agree that the problem is probably the poor quality of the charger. The problem is that I've never found anything that doesn't look like it came from the same Chinese factory in the end. Good idea with prying the wings out a bit!

This is an interesting idea with less visibility. I'll grab a flashlight and study how it could be done without dismantling (too much). Thank you!

comment What factors are important when buying a car camera?
Yes, it should have a battery so that it won't turn off just because I wiggle the cigarette power adaptor, or after a crash. I found this product which looks like a very good fit, but I've learned that apparently recordings are ignored by the law in my country, so making the recording in the first place seems pointless. It might useful to others though so I won't delete my question.
