Failing alternator, idler pulley, or something else? It could be the belt itself (the sound of it passing over the different pulleys). Could also be the water pump pulley or the A/C compressor pulley. It's not likely that it's the crank pulley (the one that drives all the others) or you'd have other problems. You can try the old trick of rubbing a bar of soap (plain old Dial or something similar) on the underside of the belt to see if that quiets anything down. If not, then it's probably a bearing in one of the pulleys. The best chance of figuring out which one is to take off the belt and check each one. |

What are the brake specs on a 2008 VW GTI? @user1337: The go-to manual is a Haynes manual, but there are others (Chilton, etc.). You may be able to find the actual manufacturer service manual (what the service technicians reference) if you know where to look. |

When looking at a transmission, how can I know if there is a LSD? Are you asking in terms of knowing whether it may have been modified? LSDs (limited slip differentials, for those wondering) were offered by Dodge through Mopar as an aftermarket accessory, but they were not originally installed on any SRT-4s in that year (that I know of). |
