Can't you stop the car just outside the garage so that you're only a few feet away while closing the door, @Johnny?

comment Lubricating rubber fuel hose for easier future removal
Can you provide any information about its staying power -- i.e., will it still be slippery two and a half years from now? That's my main concern.

While I'll accept that this might not be a bad idea, I can't find any other recommendation for changing the hose every time the filter is changed. My Haynes manual explicitly says to reuse the hoses (after inspection, of course), and the FSM makes no mention of replacement at all. More importantly, however, this still doesn't make it any easier to get the hoses off the hardlines.

comment 2009 Mini Cooper. How do I open the trunk?
There should be a latch of some kind -- maybe just a rubber-covered area that you press -- on the underside of the ledge above the license plate. You can easily find an owner's manual online if you search, too: libraryofmotoring.info/reference/manuals, for example.

I was hoping for some general advice about this arrangement, should I encounter it somewhere else, so your mention of weak bolts or stripping is appreciated.

That's an excellent point about not allowing the stud to be loose in the knuckle. I think this is my answer. I've found, however, that with the hole pointed in the direction I'd like it to be (for ease of future removal), I'm having to go nearly twice the recommended torque to get it to line up. It looks like I will need to combine rotating the stud with a more slight over-torque.

What are the actual bits that are adjusted in step 3? What controls or affects each of caster, camber, and toe?
