I disagree on alignment - it's easy for things to be knocked out of alignment by potholes etc. Also, if you have any work done on the suspension, such as replacing the struts, a wheel alignment will be essential afterwards.

Yep - The one I have is a series of exploded diagrams, with part numbers attributed to each bit. They would have been intended for dealers/traders to work out what part to order to fix something, before it all went computerised...

Sounds a bit like the ambient temperature sensor on old e30 BMWs, that was in an exposed position and would easily be knocked off - the only ill effect being that the car would 'ping' a warning every time you started the engine as it thought it was -37 degrees C outside...
