comment What is the likelihood that my crankshaft is warped?
I would think it shouldn't warp your crankshaft but I am interested to know if anyone has experience in this area.

Firstly, have you read the related question in the sidebar to the right? mechanics.stackexchange.com/questions/232/…

Hi cinelli - while correct, this doesn't really add anything to the answers already given.

comment 2006 Nissan Titan makes odd sound, but only at certain speeds
If it is only at those speeds then there is a resonance somewhere. Do those speeds correspond to a specific RPM? If so then there is something related to engine speed - perhaps mounts. If it is not related to RPM then check wheels, shocks, bearings etc

comment What modifications need to be made to an engine to enable higher safe RPMs?
Was an excellent documentary just on the stresses in F1 engines at 18000rpm. Astonishing that they don't just rip themselves to pieces, as they are so close to the limit of manufacturing capability.

comment why do engines have so much unused horsepower?
For an example, my car has a small 2.5 litre Japanese engine, but it is highly tuned and gets nearly 400bhp - which translates to an acceleration time to 60mph of 4.2 seconds. But the top speed is under 200mph because it is not an aerodynamic car - it is shaped like a brick.

comment Car randomly stalls (driving or stationary), then generally kicks back in or starts back up straight away
If your revs drop to zero while you are coasting along in gear then I'd be very concerned - is the speedo electronic?

comment Rubbing noise when driving with clutch engaged?
If you don't have the necessary lift or stands in your garage I'd probably suggest taking it along to a local mechanic. This will also have the advantage that they can listen as well, and will be in a very good position to identify the noise.

comment How to lubricate automotive locks?
See @metalheart's answer - a spray lubricant like WD40 is the best and simplest option here.

comment How to lubricate automotive locks?
Agreed - this is what I have used in the past. It avoids stickiness, although you will want to place an absorbent towel below the keyhole to soak up excess lubricant.

yep - I can't understand why the fuse doesn't go, but this seems like the only likely cause...

comment Tire Diameter Vs Tire Wear
agreed - from experience of going through 2 or 3 sets a year, these are the major factors (in fact the top two for me are driving style and compound)

comment How do I know what quality tires to choose? What criteria sets them apart?
No, you misunderstand, @theug, I am not suggesting that. Grip is often compromised for wear, but they are both factors you need to weigh up. How important are the factors to you.

comment Is there a good crash course website or book for auto repair for beginner who's just getting into auto repair?
well, at risk of sounding facetious, this site can be very useful. As you come up against a problem, or an area you need information on, ask the question.

mac - totally agree. A temporary fix to crawl back to the garage. Where you would buy a new tire :-)
