comment SRS indicator light keeps coming on, code 7-2 “Internal failure of SRS unit”
Yep, they want $600 to replace the control module, and charged $100 for the scan, but then say they will take $100 off the $600 if I bring it back to them to fix.

comment Should one fit the least-worn tires to the rear wheels?
"Front Wheel Drive cars - This is a tricky situation, because it is natural to assume that the wheels that have to do the pulling (front wheel on front wheel drive car) should have the best traction. The natural assumption is the wrong one and the likely reason that the installation of two new tires is done wrong on so many front wheel drive cars." ajforeignauto.com/…

Vacuum doesn't harm a system that's designed to keep high pressure in? Things won't collapse?

comment How to recharge AC using booster from auto parts store?
@MarkJohnson The instructions say "shaking and rotating from 12 o’clock to 3 o’clock every few seconds". I assumed this was to get oil from the can into the system, since it says "Restores lost refrigerant and oil"?

@user6376: I never fixed it, it still happens.

comment Is Prestone “All Makes/All Models” coolant *really* compatible with all models?
Deionizing water is just a cheaper way of removing salt ions to approximate distilled water. The only difference between deionized and distilled is that deionized has more non-ionic contaminants like organic stuff and bacteria. I don't believe there will be any differences as you state.

comment How does low oil level cause misfires or VTEC malfunctions?
Obviously I'm going to check the oil a lot more often now. I last checked it 2 months ago and it was a normal level, so I have to figure out what's going on with that.

Yes, but that says the problem is actually the caps and recovery bottles that were introduced at the same time.

I've read all the DexCool stuff for my old Chevy Cavalier and it's all hearsay with no concrete proof of anything

@Tim: I tried to check the wires and then realized it doesn't have wires; it's coil-on-plug. :D I checked the plugs and they seemed normal.

I took out all the coils and looked for cracks, but there was nothing obvious. I also misted the engine with water while it was running and didn't see any sparks or hear any power drop or anything. It does seem to happen more often while it's humid, though.

Also, isn't this only relevant when you mix it with tap water yourself?

I find it hard to believe that they can make a generalization like that about the mineral content of water supplies across the entire continent.

I've noticed it happening often in the last few rainy days, so that might be it.

@Tim: What, you can't magically identify and fix my problem over the internet? :) But for now I'm not sure how exactly to test any of those, so I'm just giving some more clues. Is there a simple way to isolate whether it's a lack of fuel or a lack of spark?

For the record, my car is the EX, with the D17A2 engine, which only has one catalytic converter in the exhaust pipe under the vehicle, so that's not the issue. The D17A6 has two catalysts (one in the exhaust manifold and one in the exhaust pipe). The D17A1 has only the one in the exhaust manifold.
