Paulster2, the only thing I see @Pip could have expanded on more is where the crankshaft position sensor is. Still, this answer is quite helpful as is, anyway.

@Mauro 20W50 mineral oil, per dealer's recommendation.

Ive voided the warranty. It was a cash trap. Must service every 3000km or three months. I hardly do 1000km in three months. Every few thousand km something else falls off the warranty. A fellow biker stopped to help yesterday, and suggested I smell the oil. It smells like something, no doubt friction plate, has burnt.

It's cable, and I've adjusted the hell out of it. While waiting for a tow this morning, a fellow biker suggested I smell my oil, and it does indeed smell something like burnt friction plate.

Thanks @Paulster2, I'm glad my revisions improved the question.

Indeed good advice to use the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, but I am currently unable to find one. It's a poorly supported Chinese import. What gives you the idea I'm trying to cheap out? I asked for advice on what service tasks I should perform, for an 'old fashioned' 250cc bike in general. Nowhere did I ask what to skip or how to save money.

A 'modem'? I've seen capacitors on distributes, but I've never seen anything as electronic as a modem on those old cars.

I am a fairly good DIY mechanic, but I asked here in case such problems, and maybe a common cause, occur frequently with the Uno.
