comment How do I troubleshoot a P1443 code for a Chevy Equinox
I don't suppose you'd be able to tell me what the p1443 code on a GM means, would you? Also the throttle problem seems to have gone away for the moment.

Awesome, would you recommend I just replace it or try to clean it and the throttle body using the method described in this article? reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/comments/2sr8pw/…

Correct, although easing into the pedal VERY gradually is sometimes OK.

It occurs in both cases - at rest while in gear at a light, or when taking off after changing from Park to Drive or Reverse. Reving the engine to between 3k and 4k RPM while in Park is fine, however.

comment Why won't my Honda Rebel shift when idling?
The short answer is yes; I believe your engine and transmission share the same space inside the block, so you'll want to drain the oil first. Check out cyclepedia.com - they have a lot of highly detailed manuals you can browse online.

Which shift lever are you referring to, the one you move with your foot or the lever inside the transmission / crank case? If you're talking about the foot lever, any force great enough to bend it might have broken it or shifted its seat inside the block. You could try removing the transmission cover on the right side of the engine than have a buddy try the shift lever and see what happens. You won't be able to disengage the clutch while the cover is off, but you should be able to see if the shift arm has been damaged.

Updated the answer; now time for a few questions: 1) When you pull the clutch lever, do you feel any resistance? 2) Have you pulled off the side faring, and is there any visible damage on the side with the transmission on it?

Hi there, welcome to Stack Exchange! First, this kind of response usually goes as a comment rather than an answer :) Second, I'm afraid it's a bit hard to explain, and may not apply to your bike, but I'll try to update the answer with some helpful info.

She's all closed back up and running now, but I'll see if I can find some creative commons photos I can add for reference.

Indeed; shifting at a standstill before the rebuild was fairly easy. I've tried rolling forward under slight power, or even rolling backward, but neither seems to make shifting easier. Thanks for the help!

comment How might I fix a dent in a Honda Rebel fuel tank?
I think I'll give this a try tonight. The metal the tank is made of is fairly thick, would heating that spot to make it a bit softer compromise the tank? There's no fuel in it.

comment What are good techniques for cleaning metal filings out of a crank case?
I took the case apart so I could clean it out. Also, the foam idea didn't work; motor oil in a test cup prevented the foam from hardening enough to do any good.
