comment Hyper-miling and stress on engine oil
@BlessedGeek you seem to be insistent on not following general recommendations, so the only way to make an educated choice about when to change your oil would be to send a sample of your used oil out for analysis. Probably multiple samples at 5k mi, 6k mi, etc. Its the only way to know how far you can stretch your oil changes with your car and your choice of oil and your driving style. Also, you could spend a couple of years over at BobIsTheOilGuy. Or you could just change your oil.

have you checked the fader/balance settings to make sure they didn't get inadvertently set faded all the way to the rear?

How do they define "necessary"? As I said, if you really care about getting it right, send the oil out for professional analysis. If you want to be safe, follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

comment Differences and Recommendation between Steel and Alloy Wheels for Winter?
If the paint on an alloy chips, you can get oxidation of the underlying alloy metal. It won't be red like rust, more typically it will be chalky white. If you catch it before it gets horrendously bad, its simple to clean it up and throw some touch-up paint on to keep the oxidation from spreading.

just a thought--might the switch be damaged/worn such that, even though it works electrically, it is not being depressed far enough by the trans to complete the circuit?

I saw the CW designation. was hoping the OP would take another crack at it, or failing that, that someone from the community with the knowledge.

@JuannStrauss Huh? how can the exhaust "suck" anything? Which "oil seals" exactly are you talking about?

presumably also some kind of wrench to remove the oil pan drain plug... tool sizes and oil quantity would be helpful additions.

@SamWhited might want to specify clutch master and slave cylinders. Also, could be worn synchros on 3rd gear.

comment Can an engine be 'too lean' at 0%/closed Throttle?
As for reference material, check out Bosch's "Gasoline Engine Management," its a fantastic book, and judging by your question, I think you might find it an interesting read. Lots of good theory.

This answer doesn't really address the heart of the question. The OP is asking about a specific set of tires that would need to mount on a 16 inch wheel (or maybe they're already on a 16 inch wheel). Just because the new car can (maybe) accept a 16 inch wheel, doesn't mean that the OPs 255/60-R16 tires would be appropriate for the vehicle.

These winter tires don't happen to be mounted on a second set of wheels, do they?

comment Volkswagen Golf MKV Fault log
The car definitely will not pass inspection with these error codes. Vacuum leaks may be a good place to start looking, or the mass airflow sensor.
