comment Understanding NA Ford Escort air conditioning modes
Not as much, in my experience. My 2012 Focus has separate fan, vent, temperature, A/C, and recirculate controls but if you turn the temperature knob all the way cold, it enables recirculate automatically. Likewise, if you turn the vent knob to full defrost it turns on the A/C. Much better, still kind of irks me but i can understand it.

comment How to loosen drive belt tensioner on 2007 Toyota Corolla?
Yup, seeing the picture now, I would go with the closed end of a wrench and a pipe. Possibly a hammer, depending on the length of the pipe/leverage. I've got some cheapo wrenches I've cut the open end off to allow small diameter pipe, just for stuff like this.

What kind of socket and ratchet are you using? Can you get a smaller, shallower socket on it?

comment Does switching to neutral on an automatic transmission improve braking for immediate stopping?
Engine braking on an automatic will only occur if it has locked the torque converter. Otherwise the engine can only help the car accelerate, but the drivetrain is "free" so to speak.

comment Engine revs up when braking
From that comment you posted on your question, it appears it does have this "Grade Logic". It's probably mostly a safety feature: to reduce brake temperatures. It will not decrease your stopping distance any more than the same car going the same speed without the feature--assuming brake temps are the same.

comment When looking at a transmission, how can I know if there is a LSD?
Ah, also you'll need the transmission in neutral to test this. Otherwise the opposite wheel will be forced to go the opposite way. If I'm thinking this through correctly.

comment How do you set side mirrors?
Robbie, I've found that a lot of manufacturers seem to have their side mirror housings setup to prefer the narrow method. For example, the 2001-2004 or so Nissan Pathfinder: If you set it narrow, the mirrors "go" with the housing more. If you set it wide, they look weird. On another car, I couldn't even adjust it correctly--it was beyond the limits. I've never gone back to the narrow method, and wish this were more widely known.
