comment Does the tachometer provide any indication of fuel usage?
Additionally, engines can be more efficient at certain speeds than others, depending on load. For example, hyper-milers like to "Burn-cruise", where if they have to accelerate, they do it quickly/aggressively to put the car close to its peak torque, which is typically the more fuel efficient per HP produced.

You can spray newer cars' engine bays. What kind of car are we talking about?

comment Car Cigarette Lighter Keeps Blowing Fuse
You'd have to remove the fuse to get an accurate reading of current.

comment Car Cigarette Lighter Keeps Blowing Fuse
Ford's cig. lighters used to be battery powered. Which is annoying since most devices will drain your battery. Now they are accessory powered, at least on my 2012 Focus. I find it hard to believe Chrysler went a step ahead and gave the user the option. But if so, that's cool.

Does the car have any aftermarket equipment? Radar detectors, stereo, etc.?

comment Can coasting in neutral damage an automatic transmission?
Sure, in that edge case you can save fuel if you shift to neutral and turn the engine off. Whether the fuel saved outweighs the wear and tear from the engine stopping and starting is probably not a bad question to ask at that point.

comment Can coasting in neutral damage an automatic transmission?
Yeah, they are separate situations. Coasting in neutral is not going to hurt anything.

Are you able to take individual component belts off to test, or is a single serpentine system?

comment Why is my engine quieter with synthetic oil?
+1. Noisy lifters can often free up when induced to do so with different viscosity/quality oil. That's pretty much what Seafoam and the like do.

comment Oil leak - just keep refilling?
I'm with you. I'm also wondering why dipsticks haven't advanced much in the past 80 years or so. I guess some cars have oil level sensors though.

comment What is an oil catch can for?
This is all true. But along with dirtying everything on the intake side, it also lowers the effective octane of the mixture, which can lead to detonation.
