comment truck will not start
I'd also check the ground cable where it attaches to the frame. Every time I've had an issue where the engine wouldn't crank, it was the battery or the ground cable.

comment In the -20F temperatures last week my temperature gauge was stuck under the 1/4 mark. Heating was also affected
I've wired cardboard flaps to my radiator when the temps get down below zero. Cheap, easy, and works like a charm!

comment Should rotors with rust on the rims but not the faces be replaced along with the pads?
In most modern cars, the rotors are so thin that they can't be resurfaced without making the rotor thickness fall below the minimum. My 2001 A4 usually needs new ones every other pad change (with factory pads). On my wife's Grand Caravan, the front rotors need to be changed every time you change the pads. They also tend to warp if you get them too hot, don't get me started on that!

comment 2000 Chevy Camaro starts, idles low around 1000 rpms for 4 or 5 seconds before dying
How's the acceleration? It sounds like you might have a dirty air filter or an obstruction in the air intake. How does the car perform once it's warm?

comment Why did my car stall when I used the foot brake?
Keep in mind it's not just an increase in load, but also a reduction in engine RPM. When your engine slows down during braking, your alternator output drops. So you're drawing more current from the battery, and putting less back.

comment When do brake rotors really need to be replaced?
I just did the front brakes on my car this weekend, and I noticed that the allowable rotor wear was only 2mm. I think resurfacing them after a normal amount of wear would probably take them over the limit. I tend to just replace them every other pad change -- they're not that expensive, considering how important they are.

comment 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 Disc Brake Conversion
Disc brakes don't grip well when they get wet, which can be a problem when off-roading. Their advantages (self-adjusting, easier to service, less fade when hot) more than make up for this, though.

comment 2003 Ford Escort ZX2 has creaky steering
You could ask someone to check to see if they need to be lubed. Another possibility is your sway bar. If your bushings are starting to get hard or worn, they could creak as the weight transfers to one end. You should be able to check this by pushing down on the left front corner of the car. If it creaks or groans, that may be your culprit.

@BobCross: Before balancing a new tire, they will remove all the old weights. I've never been to a place that cleaned off the old weight adhesive.

comment What is the life expectancy of a Honda Civic Hybrid Continuously Variable Transmission?
@BrianKnoblauch: Speaking as a former Civic Hybrid owner, there isn't a lot of power available to put down! This is pretty clearly a case of "provocative maintenance".
