@user3098378 In that case the question Allan Osborne linked to should point you in the right direction. Ignore the bluetooth bits, you're still going to be talking to the ELM chip via AT commands.

What hardware interface are you using between the Rasberry PI and the OBD port? Unless you're bit banging, you have to have something converting VPW/PWM/whatever to something the Rasberry PI can talk to (I'd guess some kind of serial via RS3232C or USB).

comment What are the benefits of premium (high octane) petrol?
@Matt True. Though sometimes when I put my Garage Queen away for the winter I'm lazy and I'll just fill it with premium. I don't imagine GM wants to rely on folks remembering to add Sta-Bil if they haven't filled up in a while, either.

comment Easiest way to disable the A/C compressor
@vlsd Apart from the less effective defroster setting, I don't see any problems with a removed A/C system. Removing the compressor, condenser, dryer and the lines connecting them will be fairly straightforward. The evaporator is up under the dash with the heater core and will be a huge pain to remove. Probably best to plug the lines and forget about it.

@vlsd In that case you could remove the belt, I suppose.

comment 2005 Toyota Rav4 Won't Start
If the timing chain actually broke, valve damage would be possible if the engine is an interference design. I'd think it more likely that the compression test results would just indicate that the timing is screwed up unless valve damage was actually observed.

So there is fuel and spark present, but it's still not starting? How about a compression test on a random cylinder? If it was me, I would check that before looking at the timing chain.

Did the mechanic check for fuel pressure and spark?
