@BrianKnoblauch Once upon a time, the orange cans were good filters, at least that's what I've heard. They haven't been since at least 1999 if you believe the site I linked to. Again, according the to linked source, the Mobil 1 has a nitrile anti-drainback valve. At least they did in 2008. They could have changed manufacturers or designs again.

@tooshel Try that again when it's not working, if possible. Transient problems are the worst. As far as things that could be susceptible to heat, just about everything. I could believe thermal cycling as the cause for an intermittent fault in the switches, wiring or motor.
