What type and vintage is the coolant? Any sign of sludge?

If you've got a bleeder valve, it's probably on the thermostat housing.

comment Transmission fluid and filter change: Miles or time? Or both?
What I really want to know is how the filter screen holds up versus the fluid over time. I would suspect the fluid breaks down over time due to moisture contamination and other factors, but what about the screen? Will just sitting in aging fluid clog it up?

If nothing else, pumping a few quarts out before dropping the pan will probably cut down on the mess.

Looks like the idea is to pump a few quarts out, shut down, let everything settle back into the pan and repeat until the color going in and coming out match.

I'd be surprised if the service interval was different between models, but I'll check the owner and factory service manual when I get a chance. 99% percent sure the pan size was the same for all three years, but I'll check that, too.

The idea is you pump a couple quarts out and shut down before you starve the pump, wait for everything to drain back to the pan, add a couple fresh quarts and repeat until what's coming out looks like what's going in.

I've been cruising the forums. It seems the common procedure is to pump a couple quarts out at a time while replacing with fresh fluid so as not to starve the pump. I'll post some links when I get a chance.

There is no drain plug on the stock pan, but you can pull one of the cooler lines and pump a few quarts out at time while replacing with fresh fluid.

A 94-96 B-Body will be either a Caprice or an Impala SS. A lot of the difference between the two is trim level stuff. There is a lot of commonality for this range of years on this platform. The 4L60E was the only transmission, and while there are some minor mechanical and electrical differences between the three model years, they can be adapted and are somewhat interchangeable.
