comment Where is the battery located on a Chevrolet Cobalt and how do you change it?
@hhilda You could go either way, but I'd suggest following the manual if possible. If you need to jump the vehicle and the trunk is better positioned than the engine bay...any port in a storm.

Hacking the Passlock system is possible, it's not terribly difficult, but you need to know the proper resistance value to use. Which requires an existing key accepted by the vehicle and access to the interior of the vehicle.

Depends on the locksmith. To get the job done, they'll need the same hardware from GM that the dealer has. I'm reasonably certain that there are at least some locksmiths with the right gear. I suppose they have some competitive incentive to price their services at the same or less than the local cost of a tow + dealer reprogram.

Won't work on a vehicle with a GM Passlock system unless the system has been hacked. The Powertrain Control Module will not enable the fuel injectors unless the Body Control Module tells it to. The Body Control Module wants to see a certain resistance value. You can make the Body Control Module see what it wants to see if you know the magic value, but it requires a little wiring harness surgery. Unless the Passlock system has been bypassed, attempting to start the vehicle without a proper key is just going to trigger a timed lockout where the vehicle won't start even with a proper key.

comment How to recharge AC using booster from auto parts store?
@endolith The shaking and rotating is actually to help the refrigerant vaporize and get into the system. Hopefully the oil goes along for the ride.

comment How do you detect and deal with a freon leak?
@endolith No, it's standard procedure to get moisture out of the system and test for leaks.
