@hhilda You could go either way, but I'd suggest following the manual if possible. If you need to jump the vehicle and the trunk is better positioned than the engine bay...any port in a storm.

Hacking the Passlock system is possible, it's not terribly difficult, but you need to know the proper resistance value to use. Which requires an existing key accepted by the vehicle and access to the interior of the vehicle.

Depends on the locksmith. To get the job done, they'll need the same hardware from GM that the dealer has. I'm reasonably certain that there are at least some locksmiths with the right gear. I suppose they have some competitive incentive to price their services at the same or less than the local cost of a tow + dealer reprogram.
