I am not suggesting you do this, just giving my experience from replacing airbags. I am not familiar with this vehicle specifically, but I have changed the airbag on a couple older cars (early 90's). In the cars I worked on, the airbags were plugged into the car's wiring harness, I could simply unplug them. This will throw the airbag diagnostic light.

Disabling an air bag component doesn't seem like a good idea. I think on some systems if you disable a piece of it, it can disable the whole system. I'm not any kind of an expert but messing with an airbag system seems like it could be very dangerous to you or your passengers.

Its common. Usually goes away in a day or less. If not, you need to have the truck reset by the dealer or bmw mechanic. This has a good explanation. Not your same model but it applies.

Interestingly, you can read the code without a scanner. The airbag light or ABS light (and even the check engine light) will all blink the codes when the OBD-II connector is properly bridged.
