I have a Jimny model year 2009. When I get up to 80 km/h, the steering wheel shakes slightly; it does the same when braking from any speed above 80 km/h down to the 80 mark, but much more violently. I've done alignment and balancing, but didn't work. Garage says it may be deformed braking discs...thoughts?
if the shake becomes worse when you apply the brake, then I'd agree with the garage. The rotors are wearable items and as they get older, they often develop a warp (or to be more precise according to some schools of thoughts, uneven build up of brake pad material). How many miles are on those rotors? Also depends on your driving patterns, my rotors regularly go bad in less than 2 years because the car ends up sitting unused for days and they end up rusting.
The other possibility is bent rim. If rims are bad, generally no amount of balancing will stop the car from shaking. Run over any potholes/curbs lately?
The recent media about the deceleration of VW vehicles rang alarm bells with me. The power loss being reported and the shuddering are symptoms I have had for some time with my Suzuki Jimmny. The shuddering is while I am stationary and the steering wheel wobbles madly before sometimes stalling. All this being from brand new, but the powerloss is more recent. My gearbox was changed just 4 weeks after my brand new car went back for its first adjustment check of tappets etc. at the Dealership. It has been back many times since.
This leads me to think that the part could be faulty across other vehicles. My car is a Suzuki Jimny 4WD 2004 model that has NEVER been right from when I collected it with only 45kms on the clock from the dealership. Throughout the warranty period and since, the dealer tried many things to rectify the problem and even when it cut out on them they still couldn’t identify what the problem was.
I am now losing power suddenly as I drive and can never tell when it is going to happen. The stalling and power deceleration are connected it seems to me. Whatever the VW vehicle problem is, I am confident I have it too and that the same part is causing the problem. Could you please inform me with any knowledge you have as I genuinely am concerned I will be rammed one day as there is barely power to even veer off the road when this happens until the power returns which can be 30 seconds or so generally.
