I have a Hero Honda air cooled single cylinder 4 stroke engine bike. It's about 5 years old, and I've done all the recommended servicing on time. I lost the servicing manual, but I remember that the end of the manual mentioning something about doing a servicing once every certain number of kilometers of usage. A friend says the bike is to be serviced every six months. But if I'm using the bike only once every week, how often would I have to service it?

Or rather, what would be the general frequency of servicing a bike? One year? Six months? How does one decide?

You go by the manual. Some items may be time limited, some may be by mileage. Most will have a time and mileage limit, such as "Do x every 12,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first".
