Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for mechanics and DIY enthusiast owners of cars, trucks, and motorcycles. It's 100% free, no registration required.

When I start accelerating, after around 3 seconds I get a spike in my engine rpm (at least it sounds like it). After another few seconds it calms back down and continues escelating as expected.

I don't have much mechanics knowledge but i'd assume it's a roller or belt problem; If it is, which would be the suggested maintenance fix?

My scooter is a 150cc, around 3 months old and has just over 2000 KM on it.

Can you provide year/make/model? –  DucatiKiller Mar 3 at 21:10

It sounds as though the clutch may be slipping during engagement. Depending on the brand there are ways to adjust the automatic clutch to engage at a lower RPM.
