I would like to know the technical name in english of the box/container/cabinet (that external square case, but not the reservoir where the air is compressed) of an air compressor.

What application is this compressor being used in? Are you talking about an air conditioning compressor or an air compressor like would be used to power air tools? – Larry Sep 27 '11 at 22:49
used to power air tools – Totty Sep 28 '11 at 9:10

That (in the HVAC industry) is simply called the compressor.

but I'm not speaking about the box+internal-components. just the external sound proof box – Totty Sep 28 '11 at 9:11

I suspect there is no official technical term for the component you desribe, it would simply be described as the 'casing' or 'cover' for the compressor itself.

Most compressors I've come across are uncased, with the motor and compressor unit mounted on top the reservoir.

I know; there are 2 (or more types): those with a "cover" and without. I need to find a manufacturer for those "covers" in italy, but I can't find any great, as the web-sites are quite poor in SEO. If someone can suggest anything I would be happy to know, thanks – Totty Sep 28 '11 at 13:22
